AFA Teens for Alzheimer's Awareness College Scholarship

This scholarship provides an excellent opportunity for college-bound students to give thoughtful consideration to the impact Alzheimer’s disease has on their own lives and others in their family and community. Students are required to submit an autobiography and write a 1,200 to 1,500 word essay that answers the following questions:- How has Alzheimer’s disease changed or impacted your life?

Aubrey Lee Brooks Scholarship

Seventeen Brooks Scholarships are awarded annually to graduating seniors from the 14 specified counties on the basis of

BigSun Scholarship

The BigSun Organization is proud to be able to continue to help young athletes succeed in their academic pursuits. We are offering an annual scholarship to a deserving student. Lloyd E. and Rachel S. Collins Scholarship

The Lloyd E. and Rachel S. Collins Scholarship was established in 1991 by former students of Lloyd E. Collins in honor of Mr. Collins’ dedication to education through his service as a teacher, principal, and member of the Stokes County Schools Board of Education for 50 years. Forgivable Education Loans for Service (FELS)

FELS provides significant funding for students enrolling in college programs leading to health and teaching careers in North Carolina. Students receiving funds through FELS are obligated to work in North Carolina in the chosen field upon completing their academic programs; those who do not fulfill the service obligation must repay the loans in cash, with interest. Golden LEAF Scholars Program
Amount: $12,000 ($3,000 per year for 4 years)
The Golden LEAF Scholars Program is designed to assist current high school seniors and North Carolina community college transfer students. Recipients must be from certain rural counties and demonstrate both financial need and merit to attend participating North Carolina colleges and universities in the fall of 2021. The scholarship is funded by the Golden LEAF Foundation through a grant to the North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority.

The Golden LEAF Scholars Program - Two-Year Colleges is funded through a grant from the Golden LEAF Foundation, a nonprofit organization established in 1999 to help transform North Carolina's economy. Participating colleges may vary; therefore, students are encouraged to check with the financial aid office at their college to see if the college is taking part in the program.

Mel Hughes Scholarship Program
Amount: $250 for community/technical; $1,300 for college/university
This annual scholarship program provides educational assistance to Allegacy Federal Credit Union members for post-secondary (undergraduate) education. Four $1,300 scholarships for college/university students and four $250 scholarships for community/technical school students are awarded annually. The applicant must be a full-time student enrolled at least 12 semester hours or a high school senior accepted on a full-time basis, at an accredited post-secondary institution. When applying, students may also be considered for a scholarship offered by the Carolinas Foundation General Fund.

Independence Good Fellows Scholarship

Jagannathan Scholarships
Amount: $2,000 non-renewable
Established by industrialist N.S. Jagannathan, the scholarships were first awarded for the 1996-97 academic year. The Jagannathan Scholarship program is administered by the North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority.
Applicant must meet the following eligibility requirements
· Be a graduating senior planning to enroll as college freshmen in a full-time degree program at one of the constituent institutions of The University of North Carolina
· Be a resident of North Carolina for tuition purposes
· Have demonstrated academic achievement (as indicated by class rank, cumulative GPA, and SAT scores), leadership, and financial need

The Bill Johnson Scholarship Fund to benefit Stokes County students honors the leadership and vision of William (Bill) Howard Johnson Jr. Bill was a product of the Stokes County school system. On scholarship, Bill graduated from North Carolina State University before serving in Vietnam as a Marine Corps engineer. Bill returned home from Da Nang, Vietnam in 1970. He enrolled in graduate school at NC State. Shortly after his acceptance Bill was in an automobile accident which required a full year of therapy before he was able to return to graduate school. Bill received his master’s degree in public administration. He became the Stokes County Manager in 1973. He switched to the position of health director and remained in this role from 1976 to 1997.
Bill Johnson left a legacy of outstanding public service to the people of Stokes County. The varied projects and service initiatives that he launched or shepherded have had a lasting impact on Stokes County. He accomplished his goals through collaboration with many organizations and people of our county. His investment of time and effort has left a lasting legacy. This legacy continues through the Bill Johnson Scholarship Fund.

Legal Support Staff of Winston Salem Scholarship
Amount: $1,500
The Legal Support Staff of Winston-Salem (“LSSWS”) www.lssws.org. is offering a $1,500 scholarship (nonrenewable) to qualified students in Forsyth, Davie, Davidson, Stokes, Surry and Yadkin Counties.
The winner of our local chapter scholarship automatically becomes an eligible candidate for the LSSNC state-sponsored scholarship in the amount of $2,500 for first place, and $1,500 for second place.
All applicants must be either a high school senior or enrolled in a school of advanced education; be in need of financial assistance; and have at least a “B” average or not below 90%, if percentile system is used.

The Chester Arzell and Helen Miller Montgomery Scholarship was established in December 2007 with a gift from Chester Arzell Montgomery to provide scholarships to deserving graduating high school seniors from Stokes County public high schools.
