Meredith College in Raleigh has announced their 2018 women's leadership development conference for high school juniors. This is a FREE conference held on SATURDAY, JANUARY 27, offered to help you develop and sharpen your leadership skills. Broyhill Leadership Conference @ Wingate University

BLC is open to rising 10th through 12th graders through 2019 high school graduates who are interested in personal development and leadership training. Due to the generosity of the Broyhill Family Foundation and other sponsors, the actual cost to attend BLC ($650) is reduced to $300. The fee covers The BLC Handbook, all meetings, 11 meals and four nights' lodging. Early registration is $275 if submitted by May 10 for BLC 1; May 24 for BLC 2. $325 for regular registration by May 31 for BLC 1 and June 14 for BLC 2. Fees increase to $375 after June 1 (BLC 1), 201 or June 15, 2019 (BLC 2).

Camp Cardiac
Camp Cardiac is a 1-week (Monday to Friday) summer day camp running daily from 8:30am to 4:00pm, in Winston-Salem.. The camp is open to all high school students (including Spring/Summer 2017 graduates) at least 15 years and older as of first day of assigned session. All of the following and more is included: CPR Certification-Campers receive a certification card from the American Heart Association; Hands-on Workshops-Campers will learn a variety of skills, including how to take patient histories, suture, and perform basic routine physical exams; Basic Knowledge Lectures-Lectures cover basic heart anatomy and physiology; Introduction to Various Careers in Healthcare-Campers learn about careers directly from professionals a given field (e.g., physician, nurse practitioner, physician assistant, dietician, perfusionist); Heart Dissection (pig)*-Campers receive hands-on experience as part of their basic heart anatomy; Medical Student Forum-A panel of medical campers discuss their individual paths to medical school, and pass on the tips and lessons that they've learned from their experience; Healthy Living Exercise-Campers learn various techniques to become/stay physically fit; Graduation Certificate-Campers receive a certificate of graduation upon the completion of the camp; Daily Lunch
*This activity is performed with actual "real" tissue and may make some campers uncomfortable or ill. Please let us know of any concerns that you may have ahead of time. An alternative schedule can be arranged.

Design Camp at NC State
Design Camp is an annual summer pre-college program offered to high school students who are interested in design, held at NC State University College of Design. Since its inception 29 years ago, Design Camp has introduced more than 3,000 high school students to the exciting world of design. Design Camp informs students about college study in design and raises awareness of the impact of art and design through a series of week-long summer programs. Duke University Youth Programs: Summer 2017
Duke Youth Programs is a part of Duke University Continuing Studies and has provided summer academic enrichment for academically motivated youth for over 30 years. Each summer approximately 650 youth from around the nation and world, representing some 22 states and 5 different countries, attend one of our summer programs. Camps open for registration on December 1st! We offer 13 different programs for students from grades 6-11. All programs seek to engage learners in innovative, interactive, transformative learning experiences. Co-curricular social and recreational activities are carefully planned and delivered to complement the instructional day. The camp “learning community” approaches learning as a shared responsibility among students, instructors, and counselors.

Envisioning Youth Empowerment (EYE) Retreat
Who: Youth with visual impairments who want to learn about college and careers.
What: An annual week-long camp sponsored by The Governor Morehead School Alumni Association to improve post secondary outcomes.
When: Saturday, July 28 to Saturday, August 6, 2017
Where: The Governor Morehead School, NC State University & area businesses.
Why: To provide an opportunity for youth with visual impairments to experience a glimpse of post secondary outcomes (careers, college, etc.) through development of mentoring relationships with other visually impaired individuals, real world applications of college and career skills, and identification of available resources in the community.

The Martha Guy Summer Institute

Appalachian offers 3 week summer program for Juniors interested in business careers!
Appalachian's Walker College of Business is accepting applications for its 10th class of the Martha Guy Summer Institute. The Martha Guy Summer Institute (MGSI) is a unique 3-week summer program for NC high school juniors interested in business careers.
The institute provides 2 weeks of on-campus instruction and fun activities. Students also spend one week in Washington, DC and New York City. Participants will develop their leadership skills, explore careers in business, and meet business leaders.
Former participants describe it as "the best" summer opportunity, so please promote to your juniors and their parents today! If you do not advise juniors, please forward this to the appropriate counselor.

National Youth Science Camp
Two high school seniors have the opportunity of a lifetime - participation in the National Youth Science Camp (NYSC). Please encourage your students to consider applying for this program.
The students receive a full scholarship to exchange ideas with scientists and other professionals from the academic and corporate worlds. The nearly month-long experience includes lectures and hands-on research projects presented by scientists from across the nation; overnight expeditions into the National Forest; and a visit to Washington D.C. The selected delegates must not only demonstrate academic achievement in science, but also show potential for thoughtful scientific leadership.
The NYSC experience is offered at no cost to its participants so that selected delegates may attend regardless of their financial status. Educational and recreational programming, as well as meals, lodging, and round-trip air passage on scheduled airlines are provided free of charge.
The NYSC is held near Bartow in the eastern mountains of West Virginia, within the Monongahela National Forest. Application forms are available on the NYSC website at this site and must be submitted directly to North Carolina's selection coordinator at the following address.

NC Senate Page Program
This program offers young men and women the opportunity to learn about and participate in the legislative process of our state. It is a week-long experience that allows high school students between the ages of 15 (or 14 if already in the 9th grade) and 18, to observe firsthand how our laws are made. It provides them the unique privilege of working on the Senate Chamber floor in the midst of legislative action.

The program is totally free of charge to participants.

- Have demonstrated leadership potential and an interest in service to school and community
- Be willing and able to participate in physical activities
- Attend an orientation session in May
- Make a commitment to participate in the entire program (July 23-29, 2017)
- Upon completion of the program, make a short presentation to the Rotary Club of King on knowledge and skills learned, benefits of participation in the program, and a plan for using knowledge and skills in school and community
